Workers’ Compensation
If you are injured at work immediately notify your employer. You may be asked to go to a certain clinic at the request of your employer. You also have the right to go to your own doctor. Tell the doctor exactly how you were injured at work. Employers rarely admit that you were injured at work. Be sure to get a note from the doctor or clinic stating you cannot work or noting your restrictions as a result of your work injury.
Getting hurt on the job can turn your life upside down. You have pain and discomfort from your injury, you need medical assistance and you are stressed because you are out of work and suffering a financial setback due to the work injury. You are dealing with the physical limitations of the work injury. Your family is worried. You may be feeling pressure from your employer. If you have been injured at work and have suffered a temporary or possibly permanent disabling injury you may be eligible to receive workers’ compensation benefits. As an injured worker you may also be entitled to compensation for permanent scarring, disfigurement, and loss of function. In Massachusetts and Rhode Island there is no “pain and suffering” damages for a workers’ compensation claim.
The hard reality is that the insurance company will do what is best for them and not what is best for you. Ahearn Law will never represent employers or insurance companies – we only have your interest in mind.
